All is Safely Gathered In

... and the winter storms begin.

The apple sauce is a beautiful color this year.   The extra warmth of summer this year did good things to those red beauties.

all safely gathered in. that's the perfect phrase for this time of year and coming november (one of the most beautiful months here, i think). there's a coming cozy comfort in mid-to-late fall.

what kind of apples? soon i'm going to post photos of all the things we've harvested. such a flurry of activity all at once. today it was green tomatoes. i found a tasty green enchilada sauce, which made for a tasty way to not waste leftover greenies.

I made a green tomato chutney one year and a green tomato cake. I'm sure I go the recipes on the net. I tried something that was supposed to be a green tomato salsa, but it was more like a green tomato mustard.

Around here we might not get red tomatoes if the summer is cool - so I decided to learn to use the green ones.

My tomatoes ran rampant over my basil this year so we got tomatoes, but not basil.

I also tried roasting the abundance of cherry tomatoes - the roasted tomatoes were great with chick peas, and onions and Indian style spicing
